Last Tuesday was a parents' mandatory meeting for the football players. The coach was giving a speech to the parents, encouraging them to join the "Roundtable" club (which is the athletic boosters club), which provides many extras for the team. In extolling the benefits of the club, he said: "For example, this year we had a new student, who,....... how shall I say this nicely.............. had a rather large head......( all the football players start looking at Mike and laughing ...) and needed a new helmet. I went to the Roundtable and they bought him a larger helmet...." Needless to say the parents thought it was funny too. Poor Mike was very red in the face, but it wasn't done maliciously, so he thought it was funny too. I guess it's a way to get known in the school..... good thing Mike likes attention! They played Heidelburg this weekend in Germany. They left on Thursday night at 10 pm, in a double decker bus (66 Students upstairs, luggage and coaches downstairs) and drove 12 hours all night to get there. They practiced on Friday, had supper and slept on the gym floor in Heidelburg. Unfortunately, they lost on Sat. Mike got to play about 1/2 the game so he was happy. Then they got back on the bus and drove all night Sat and got home Sunday night at 6 am. Needless to say, Mike didn't get much sleep and spent the day Sunday, sleeping!
